Rob Smith: Bucks are good enough to avoid drop

Manager Rob Smith believes his current AFC Telford side is good enough to stay up.

Smith was pleased with Bucks' battling 1-1 draw with Alfreton Town on Saturday and has seen enough during the last few games to state the team will avoid the drop.

Telford remain bottom of the National League North but have now gone three games without defeat and could have taken all three points despite playing with 10 men for 70 minutes following Sean Clancy's dismissal for a late tackle.

Smith said no one could be in any doubt about his side's commitment following Saturday's draw.

He said: "It's not about bringing new players in, it's about them boys out there.

"I don't need to bring in any more players after seeing that performance.

"We will get out of it with that lot, no problem whatsoever."

Smith said the side were even setting their sights on climbing up the league table once they had fought their way out of the relegation places.

But he admitted the club was very much aware about the task in hand and the need to start picking up more points away from home, starting with a trip to FC United of Manchester tomorrow.

He said: "We're not out of it yet and we know that.

"We're still bottom of the league, which I keep saying, but no-one can be in any doubt now that we're in this together.

"I think we've reached the level we were looking for.

"Now we've got a few suspensions to deal with, which will be a bit of a problem. I'm not ruling anything out but I don't think that team is going to go down.

"That's our worry as a club, but if we can stay up hopefully we can start looking forward at the start of next season.

"At least our football might start bringing the crowds back.

"We have got to start picking points up away from home now, which is the challenge.

"We needed to get points on the board, which we are doing, but now we need to start getting them away from home."
