AFC Telford setting up 'transfer summits'

AFC Telford United have put the first blocks in place towards strengthening their squad with a series of 'transfer summits' set up.

Management duo Rob Smith and Larry Chambers held the first of what is expected to be several meetings with targets.

It's with a view to making two or three signings for Saturday's away game against National North survival rivals Worcester City.

Assistant boss Chambers said: "Rob and myself were out for three hours last night seeing the first of the prospective signings that we're hoping to bring in this week.

"We should know more today but we're hopeful of bringing in two or three new players this week."

Telford need reinforcements with centre-back Paul McCone (knee) forced off before half-time in Saturday's 5-1 defeat to Nuneaton, while striker Dave Hibbert (groin) has been struggling.

Jack Rea suffered a foot injury at the weekend and fellow midfielder Sean Clancy is suspended for two more games.

In addition, striker Ryan Rowe missed his place on the bench due to a calf strain picked up in training.

Meanwhile, the Bucks have been drawn away to FC United of Manchester in the FA Trophy third qualifying round. The game will be on November 28.

It will be the second time this month Smith's side will have travelled to face their National League North counterparts, after they won 3-1 there on November 3.

That has given Chambers the confidence to believe they could repeat their recent win, but it wasn't the draw he wanted.

He said: "Everyone wanted a home draw so it's disappointing. If I'm being honest, the most important priority at the moment is our league performances and I really mean that.

"The only thing I'll say about FC United is we have beaten them at their place, so there's no reason why we can't do it again."

Goals from Clancy, Robert Paratore and Hibbert at FC United secured the Bucks's first away victory since April 18. The winners will receive £4,000 from the FA prize fund.
