AFC Telford's Johnny Gorman 'must do more'

The former Wolves wide man and Northern Ireland international was handed a rare chance to stake a claim with the Bucks at Corby recently.

He replaced Lucas Dawson an hour into the 3-2 defeat, but the 23-year-old fluffed his lines.

With the Bucks trying to sign a midfielder and-or a winger in the next few days, assistant boss Larry Chambers has laid down the challenge for Gorman to produce the goods.

Chambers said: "I think if you ask Johnny, he'll think he could have done more.

"He had a couple of opportunities to run at defenders when it was late in the game and he didn't get crosses in.

"But the biggest disappointment for us was he had a great opportunity to score in the last 10 minutes and he failed to work the goalkeeper.

"That could be down to rustiness because he hasn't played a lot of football, I don't know. He'd have been disappointed himself.

"There are openings for people and little things like that can change perceptions and things like that."

Chambers stressed the door is still open for Gorman and others to impress, with the squad thinning out because of players loaned out and injuries and suspensions kicking in.

The Telford No 2 said: "There's an opportunity for all the players really who haven't been involved.

"We definitely haven't got Sean Clancy and Paul McCone and there's doubts over Dave Hibbert.

"And because we've got quite a few players out on loan, it's an opportunity for them and it's down to them to take it really."

Meanwhile, Chambers revealed Telford signed Callum Hassan amid concerns over Hibbert's fitness.

The former Shrewsbury front-man has been a talisman for Telford this season, but has struggled with a groin niggle after missing several weeks earlier in the season.

Chambers said: "That's a concern and that was one of the reasons why we signed Callum Hassan really.

"You want 'Hibbo' to play as many games as he can but you know however you try to look after him, he's going to pick up little niggles here and there.

"When he doesn't play, we miss his presence. But we've got to live with that, and hopefully Callum can come in and make up for that really."
