Bucks begin talks over double swoop

AFC Telford United have opened talks with two of their transfer targets with a view to sealing deals for Saturday.

The duo trained with the Bucks at Lilleshall on Tuesday night while negotiations continue with the players and current clubs.

But the management remain hopeful of bringing in at least two faces for the weekend National North survival crunch away to Worcester City.

"Two players trained with us on Tuesday night but we're still in negotiations with them at the moment," said assistant boss Larry Chambers.

The two that have trained are both understood to be midfielders, which is an area the Bucks are keen to strengthen with doubts over Jack Rea (foot) and Sean Clancy suspended for another two games.

Telford are also hoping to bring in two more players, if the deals materialise.

"We're probably going to be talking to another two players as well whose clubs haven't let them train with us yet," added Chambers.

"I'd like to think we'll have at least a couple of new faces for the weekend, but it's proving more difficult than we thought."

One of the targets is a striker who has been causing ripples lower down the non-league pyramid who Telford thought they have stolen a march on, but who has now attracted four or five clubs.

Meanwhile, Telford are to assess the futures of several of their players whose loans are due to expire.

They are happy to extend midfielder Mike Grogan's stay at Warrington Town.

The former Bucks Player of the Year has spent a month with the Evo-Stik First Division North promotion-chasers but is still looking to get fully match-fit after missing the first three months of the season with a knee injury.

And it looks like they will continue to allow Josh Brizell to stay at Glossop North End.
