AFC Telford United remain rock bottom of the league following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Midland rivals Worcester City.

A poor second-half display from the visitors ultimately cost them the game, as Worcester ran rampant during their National League North clash.

Goals from Wayne Thomas, Ellis Deeney and Deon Burton secured a comfortable win for the home side who themselves moved further away from the relegation zone.

Just two points separated the sides before the game and it looked like being a close affair, with the scores remaining level at half-time.

But despite throwing in new signings Liam Slade and Sam Austin, as well as Nathan Modest as a substitute, the visitors could not live with Worcester's pace in the second-half.

An early cross from Worcester's Ashley Vincent set the tempo for a lively first few minutes, but his effort could not quite find either of his front men.

Telford's Connor MCarthy was played through minutes later but he, too, could not reach the through ball.

Worcester's Daniel Nti went closest to opening the scoring, after being gifted far too much space.

His eight yard strike was well saved by goalkeeper James Montgomery for a corner, which was headed over by Alex Gudger.

Lucas Dawson rattled the bar for Telford with a deflected shot and, despite McCarthy reacting quickest to the rebound, he could not steer in the rebound on 11 minutes.

New signing Sam Austin looked very lively down the left and, on the other side, Dwayne Samuels won possession but his cross was too strong for anyone to latch on to.

Austin again caused problems and won a corner, but Curtis Tilt's header was blocked and Worcester were able to clear.

Hibbert was played through on goal and managed to get an effort off from a tight angle, but it was sent straight at the goalkeeper with 22 minutes played.

Jake Hibbs began to work himself into the game and played a neat ball over the top to Samuels, but his push in the back of the defender was spotted by the referee.

Worcester won a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the box on 27 minutes but a foul was given for a push on Montgomery, as the ball was dangerously swung into the box.

Hibbs found himself in space and his cut back found McCarthy. The striker could not generate any power and the goalkeeper saved comfortably on 33 minutes.

All Telford's best moves were coming down the flanks. A ball over the top gave Hughes his first real sniff at goal but his lobbed effort was easily saved by Montgomery.

Tilt broke through the middle and the ball broke to Austin. The winger was in a great area position but a poor cross behind the strikers ensured the scores remained level.

A 25 yard effort from Vincent nearly gave Worcester the lead soon after but it sailed just wide.

A free kick for Worcester was played short to Gudger whose shot was deflected for a corner. Hughes rose at the near post but his header flew over the bar for the last real chance of the half.

Worcester made two changes at half-time, with Tyler Weir and Tom Sharpe being replaced by Tristan Dunkley and Wayne Thomas.

Hughes found space twice early on but the first time he strayed offside and then his cross was just too high for strike partner Geddes.

Nti went close with a great cross that just failed to find the head of Hughes in the six yard box. Geddes tried to bend in free kick soon after but Montgomery palmed it out to safety.

Hibbs made a great run for Telford cutting through three Worcester players, but the home side were able to win a throw in with 58 minutes played.

A fantastic jinking run from Austin almost led to a goal only for his dipping 20 yard strike to sails just wide.

The first goal came on 63 minutes and it was all easy for Worcester as substitute Wayne Thomas rose at the back post to head home from a corner.

Worcester again went close from a corner when the ball was cleared off the line and then, at the other end, Dawson went close with a free kick. Jack Rea was replaced by new-boy Modest on 69 minutes.

Goal number one came courtesy of a wonderful free kick from Deeney who took two steps and whipped the ball inside the left hand post.

Tilt was shown the only yellow card of the game for a late challenge and then Dave Hibbert, who really had not got a look in all game, went off for Callum Hassan.

Telford made their final throw of the dice bringing on Zak Lily for Connor McCarthy, while Hughes made way for Deon Burton for Worcester.

Telford's best chance of the game went begging on 81 minutes when Hassan was played in on goal, but he could only manage a tame shot that hardly troubled the goalkeeper.

The home side wrapped things up when Deon Burton rifled in a nice volley from about 15 yards out.
