AFC Telford vow to act with more signings

AFC Telford United assistant boss Larry Chambers has vowed the club will do everything it can to stop a second straight relegation.

Saturday's 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Worcester City really got the alarm bells ringing, the result leaving Telford rooted to the bottom as Christmas approaches.

Despite making three signings on Friday, Chambers thinks more reinforcements are desperately needed after conceding 11 goals in their last three games.

He said: "The people who are at the club and the people we have brought in have not done it today, because we've conceded three.

"We are going to look to strengthen. We've got to, because that defence at the moment is conceding goals for fun.

"I don't know how many changes we'll have to make and it's not just about that, because we want to get the right people in

"It's difficult, because good players are normally on contracts or at clubs that want to keep them.

"But I know we also need to strengthen in midfield, in the middle of the park, and we'll be looking to do that in the next couple of weeks.

"We've been close with a few, but it doesn't matter how close you are because until you bring them in, it's pointless.

"Maybe we shouldn't mention anything until things are done because we thought we were close to a couple this week, which fell through.

"Every week, we are trying to improve the squad because we know what we've got isn't right.

"We will do the same, nothing changes in that respect but we'll have to see who we can bring in."

Chambers warned the side cannot wait for star players like Paul McCone and Sean Clancy to return from injury as each could be out for, at least, another three to four weeks.

He said: "We have got to forget about the big losses because the bottom line is we can't keep waiting for McCone and Clancy to come back.

"I think it's 11 goals in three games so we can't wait for McCone to be fit. He might be out for another three to four weeks, so I am not going to use that as an excuse any longer."
