Rob Smith: First goal killed AFC Telford

Keys Park hosted a huge relegation clash against Smith and Larry Chambers' former employers and the Bucks boss was left embarrassed by a lacklustre display.

Both goals came in the final five minutes of an eventful first-half, where 10 minutes were added on, because of an injury to goalkeeper James Montgomery.

Smith said: "The first goal is massive. There was nothing in the game and then we had five minutes of absolute madness and we capitulated after that first goal.

"It's a lack of character. What disappointed me is that we must have had 30 set plays, including throw ins, and there was no desire to get on the end of them.

"Sean Clancy should've put it away and he's held his hands up to that. But, two minutes later, we're letting Kyle Perry have a free header in the box. It's ridiculous. We were predictable."

A less action-packed second-half saw the rock-bottom Bucks create very little, with Pitmen shot-stopper Dan Crane not having a save to make.

Smith, who was returning to Keys Park for the first time since making his switch to Telford in August, was devastated with his side's showing after the break.

He said: "What disappointed me is the second half. We put three substitutes on who made no impact whatsoever.

"We just kept lumping it long without anyone having the bravery to come short and do something different.

"The only way that we're going to get out of this mess is to have everyone fighting and I just didn't see it.

"There's no point in them sitting there and telling me that they'll give me everything that they've got against Gloucester (on Bank Holiday Monday). They've had the chance today and haven't done it."
