Wolves' Harry Burgoyne signs to plug the AFC Telford's keeper gap

AFC Telford boss Rob Smith has drafted in highly-rated Wolves goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne on a one-month loan to cover for the injured James Montgomery.

Telford No.1 Montgomery played on in the Boxing Day defeat at Hednesford Town despite suffering a first-half hand injury.

The 21-year-old disappeared down the Keys Park tunnel with first team physio Lauren Dicken to have his dislocated finger put back into place.

The incident led to a bizarre stoppage in play as the Bucks were without a second shot-stopper on the bench, with no other keeper registered in their squad.

With today's visit of fellow relegation rivals Gloucester City at the forefront of his mind, Smith has acted quickly to bring in the Ludlow-born birthday boy as cover.

He signs at Telford for a month while Montgomery, who was revealed on social media to have one dislocated and another fractured finger after a scan, is sidelined.

Burgoyne, who turns 19 today, is no stranger to the National League North, having had spells with both Lowestoft Town and Corby Town this season.

He played six games for Corby in mid-November having impressed in his five appearances for Lowestoft. He signed a two-year contract with Wolves in the summer.

With Montgomery absent, Burgoyne – who was involved in Wolves' pre-season tour of France – will have the chance to re-introduce himself to the New Bucks Head.

On his loan deal, Burgoyne said: "After playing a number of games for Wolves Under-21s at The New Bucks Head all the staff make you feel very welcome.

"It's a great club to join with some fantastic people around the place.

"I am really looking forward to joining up with the lads and working with Rob and Larry and the staff and players."
