AFC Telford United have suspended striker Danny Glover over a breach of contract.

The club revealed Glover has been found guilty by the Football Association of playing for a Sunday League side, the Butcher's Arms in Stoke-on-Trent, three times in August and fined £300.

As a contracted player, the former Stockport County forward is not permitted to play for anyone else.

But he has appealed to the FA and the National League and a date for a hearing is yet to be set.

Managing director Lee Carter confirmed Glover has been suspended and added the club want him off the books.

Carter said: "We tried to terminate his contract for breach of contract for playing three games for a Sunday League team in August.

"We went to the FA and they concluded he was guilty. We considered it a breach of contract and the FA come down on this sort of thing pretty hard.

"We dealt with it and gave him 14 days' notice that we were terminating his contract and that expired on Christmas Eve. But now the player has appealed to the FA and the league.

"So, in the meantime, he's suspended. His appeal will be heard by the league management committee."

Carter also pledged that, if Glover loses his appeal, his wage will go to manager Rob Smith to strengthen the squad.

He said: "Should Danny go, Rob and Larry will be supported."

Glover played the first 12 games of the season, starting 11 of them, but hasn't featured since the 1-0 defeat at Fylde on October 3 and was replaced by on-loan Southport striker Connor McCarthy.

Since then, Glover has only appeared as an unused substitute on a couple of occasions, the last one a 2-0 win against Stalybridge on October 17.

Glover becomes the third contracted player to be excluded by the club recently, after Johnny Gorman and Greg Wilkinson were told to train on their own.
