Lee Carter hits out at AFC Telford call off

Angry managing director Lee Carter has hit out at the National League by claiming they have shown AFC Telford United 'no respect' by calling their match off.

The Bucks were due to welcome Hednesford Town for the return clash of their festive double-header, but Saturday's match fell victim to the weather.

A waterlogged pitch was cited as the reason for postponement. It prompted the Telford hierarchy to react frustratedly to the decision to pull the key relegation battle fixture.

The game will now be played a week tomorrow at the New Bucks Head, kicking off at 7.45pm, but the midweek date could result in a lower gate than on a Saturday.

And Carter took to social media to reveal his disappointment with the league's governing body. His tweet tagged the National League's official account.

The club were further disappointed as early calls on Saturday morning had been made for supporters to help shift any standing water on the New Bucks Head surface.

When asked on Twitter if a local FA ref had inspected the pitch, Carter replied: "Yes – advice to ref pitch will be fine. We had 10-15 people working on it including the Wolves groundsman."

It was also believed that the referee due to officiate the game did not attend the ground on the morning of the game to make his decision.

Supporters that had been in attendance to help get the game to go aheadposted pictures of the playing surface, which was seemingly in a fit state.

The Bucks have already seen a large drop in attendances over the last six months, from 1,800 in the National Premier to roughly 1,200 so far this season.

There is no word yet on when the game is likely to be rescheduled but it will most likely fall on a midweek evening, meaning that the fixture will be unlikely to receive the same support.
