The National League has hit back at AFC Telford United in the row over the controversial postponement of the National North home game with Hednesford.

Bucks managing director Lee Carter claimed the National League showed Telford 'no respect' over the calling off of the Pitmen clash last Saturday.

Carter tweeted: "The @TheNationalLge respect agenda really is a one way thing. Today's ref has shown no respect to our club."

Telford were angry the match referee never travelled to inspect the pitch after fans had worked to make the surface playable.

But National League media director Colin Peake said: "On the day of the game, the National League has no control over whether games are played.

"That rests solely with the match referee who is appointed by the FA.

"There is a system in place and, in 90 per cent of cases where games are postponed, the match referee is not at the ground.

"There are only two people involved in the decision – the local referee and the match referee.

"Telford will be fully aware of the process whether the match referee is at the inspection or not."

Former Bucks boss Steve Kittrick, meanwhile, has been named the new manager of Scarborough Athletic.
