Rob Smith wants more of the same from Bucks

Boss Rob Smith has urged AFC Telford to build on the confidence gained from Saturday's 1-0 win at Stockport - after branding it one of the biggest results in the club's recent history.

The victory, only the Bucks fifth in National League North this season, breathed new life into their battle against relegation.

Though they remain bottom of the table, Smith's men head into tomorrow's home game against Hednesford with the chance to pull themselves to within a point of the survival line.

But the boss insists they must keep working hard.

"I said we needed eight wins and that is seven we need now," he said. "You can get three in a week - for confidence Saturday will do us a world of good.

"Of course we are going to keep our foot down. No-one is going to get fooled.

"We are still bottom of the league and with a lot of work to do."

Lucas Dawson's penalty, two minutes from time, earned Telford the win at Edgeley Park.

Asked if the result was one of the biggest in the Bucks recent history, Smith replied: "I think it was. It was a massive win.

"It is one of those where you have a bad day and teams above you win you can be needing snookers.

"That is the stage it is getting to. We had a good day on Saturday in terms of other results.

"I don't think we should need any motivation for tomorrow. We were awful at Hednesford and the players have to start doing it for themselves.

"It is a big local derby and a chance to get a bit closer to them in the league."

Smith and assistant Larry Chambers are continuing their efforts to bring in new faces, with defender Jack Deaman having agreed to re-join the Bucks.

"We are looking at signing quality and because we are signing quality it does not happen overnight," he said. "There are things in the pipeline but it is slow.

"We have had a couple of knockbacks and will keep chipping away but it has got to be the right playe."
