George Bowerman leaves for MLS trial

Striker George Bowerman has left AFC Telford United after being offered a trial in Major League Soccer with Orlando City.

The 24-year-old former Walsall forward had joined the Bucks on loan from Altrincham less than a fortnight ago and had yet to feature.

But he has already moved on after getting an offer from the Florida-based club, who currently have the likes of former Brazil star Kaka on their books.

Telford assistant boss Larry Chambers said: "To be fair to George, this was an opportunity he could not turn down.

"We spoke to him, to his agent and both parties agreed for him to go. This is something which could completely transform his lifestyle."

Bowerman may not be the only New Bucks Head departure in the coming days, as Chambers confirmed there have been enquiries from unnamed clubs for out-of-favour duo Kyle Brownhill and Johnny Gorman.

In the meantime, Chambers and boss Rob Smith are doing their best to bring new faces on board to aid the club's battle against relegation from National League North.

He said: "We are always looking to improve the squad, the key is bringing in the right players who will enable us to do that.

"We are trying to do something this week but what you often find is, when you get into negotiations, they take a lot longer than you are expecting and can go on for seven to 10 days."

The Bucks are bottom of the table and are the lowest scorers in the division this season, having netted just 23 times in 28 games.

And Chambers added: "No question, we need to score more goals and we are always looking at players who can come in and help us do that.

"But we are also looking in defence and midfield as well. If we can bring a player in who can improve us, we will do it."
