John Cofie set to extend Telford stay

AFC Telford United have secured a contract for striker John Cofie until the end of the season.

Cofie, 22, who has been on non-contract terms, has agreed a deal amid interest from other clubs.

It's understood the former Manchester United starlet had attracted a seven-day approach from National League Premier side Southport.

That's plus another un-named club, after scoring twice in his first five games for the Bucks. But, after talks with the Telford hierachy, Cofie has agreed to stay until the summer.

And the youngster insists he is delighted to be staying at the New Bucks Head.

He said: "I'm seriously enjoying my football. I'm a guy who's always smiling anyway but I enjoy working hard and being here.

"You can tell how happy I am to be here because of the banter with the lads."

Cofie, who has set himself a 10-goal target to keep Telford up, remains convinced they will survive.

He said: "Most definitely and before today we were only three points from safety which is only one game so, hopefully, the teams above us won't do as well as we expect them to and we're there.

"It's not like it's something that cannot be done; it can easily be done because if we win one more game than our rivals we can be out of the bottom three.

"We go into every game looking to win - that's our mentality. We're at the bottom right now, so we need to win every game.

"We don't know what the other teams are going to do and we have to focus on ourselves, work hard for each other, take our chances when they come and enjoy it."
