John Cofie hands AFC Telford a fitness boost

John Cofie has handed AFC Telford United a boost by declaring himself fit for their return to National League North action – as they announced a game with Wolves.

Cofie was forced off after just 27 minutes of the 2-1 defeat to Solihull Moors last Saturday with suspected knee ligament damage.

But the 22-year-old Manchester United academy graduate has had the all-clear from a physio in Manchester to say there is no damage.

Now he's hoping to be ready when Rob Smith's side return to competitive combat a week tomorrow at Stalybridge Celtic.

He said: "It's all good news, thanks to God. It's nothing serious – I just need to get a few bits done by exercising and stretching.

"Hopefully, I'll be fine for the next game. I'm going in tonight to see the club physio, but the physio I saw on Monday seemed to think everything was intact."

As Cofie prepares for a quicker than expected return, Telford announced plans to fill their free weekend by hosting Wolves Under-21s in a friendly at the New Bucks Head tomorrow (12pm).

Wolves Under-21s play their home matches at the New Bucks Head and the clubs have forged a close relationship in recent years.

Telford have had Wolves pair Harry Burgoyne and Eusebio Bancessi on loan this season.

Burgoyne's second month expires this weekend, while Bancessi returned to Molineux last weekend after a month and is available to face the Bucks.

Admission will be £5 for adults, £3 concessions and £1 for Under-16s. Entrance via the Sir Stephen Roberts West Stand only.

While Telford are in friendly action, their two-point gap to safety could be extended tomorrow when their rivals play competitively.

Third-from-bottom Corby go to Alfreton, second-bottom Hednesford host Chorley, 18th-placed Lowestoft entertain Bradford Park Avenue and fourth-from bottom Brackley are at home to Stockport.
