Boss unhappy despite Telford's comeback

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith admitted his disappointment despite his side staging a monumental comeback from 5-2 down at Stalybridge Celtic.

Connor McCarthy's 94th minute leveller brought the travelling Bucks to 5-5 after they trailed by three goals after an hour.

The point moved them off bottom spot in the National League North but Smith refused to get over excited by the 10-goal thriller.

He expected more from his side against a team that the Bucks beat comfortably earlier in the season.

The Bucks boss said: "I've got to say that I'm really disappointed, I came here and I expected us to win.

"You can't concede five goals like that and expect to win. You can't score five goals and not win a football match. It's ridiculous.

"Stalybridge will feel the same, especially being 5-2 up - they'll probably feel worse.

"Maybe it's something that'll kick us on now and the bit of luck that we needed.

"We will get punished at a place like Alfreton, Camps has headed one back in the box rather than out. One rolled over Harry and another we've been beaten my a cross.

"For their first the left-back has just waltzed through us like there's no-one there.

"It's individual mistakes that they've got to cut out and there's not too much I can do about that. They've got to make sure individually we're not making mistakes and we're clearing our lines."

Josh Wilson put the Bucks ahead from distance on his first start for the club, before the hosts struck three times to ease ahead.

Lucas Dawson's goal shortly before the break brought Smith's side back into it.

But two early second-half goals had Celtic - managed by former Bucks chief Liam Watson - seemingly strolling towards the three points.

McCarthy reduced the arrears to 5-3 before Wilson added his second with 10 minutes remaining.

McCarthy sealed a memorable after in front of the travelling faithful in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

"The big problem came when we score a great goal and go one-up but have a mad five minutes," Smith added after the game.

"Lucas wouldn't clear the ball, Curtis wouldn't clear the ball and these are things we talk about all of the time.

"We've got to learn and we've got to learn quickly because there are only 11 games left."
