Boss slams Telford's Jordan Wynter abuse

AFC Telford United head to Alfreton Town tonight with boss Rob Smith condemning Bucks fans who turned on Jordan Wynter.

Smith, who will try to extend the midfielder's loan, doesn't anticipate any further new players arriving at the club.

But he declared: "Whatever we go with to Alfreton there should be enough to go there and get the result – that's what we'll go and do."

Former Arsenal trainee Wynter was substituted in Saturday's 5-5 draw at Stalybridge Celtic to ironic cheers from travelling Bucks fans.

The on-loan Cheltenham Town man's deal was up after the clash in Greater Manchester.

And Smith said: "Jordan was booed off by our own fans, which I found hard to take. I think he's been exceptional, but maybe I'm watching the wrong game.

"I don't think any players should be booed off by their own fans. That's disappointing for me and I'll be looking to extend the loan."

With tonight's trip to Alfreton on the horizon, the New Bucks Head chief admitted it was unlikely any reinforcements would be added to his squad in the coming days.

He added: "Finances are tight, I think we all know that so, honestly, I don't think there will be anyone else coming in.

With relegation rivals Hednesford Town falling to a home defeat to Brackley Town – who also occupied a place in the drop zone – on Saturday, the Bucks are now four points from safety in National League North.

Opponents Alfreton sit ninth and are unbeaten since December 19, a run of 10 league games, but Smith remains resolute.

He said: "This club needs to be at the top end of the table. We shouldn't be going to places like Stalybridge looking for three points to get out of the relegation zone, but we are.

"We are fighting as hard as we can – and we'll keep fighting."
