Telford boss Rob Smith has commended his players for an 'all-round strong performance' and keeping a clean sheet against Chorley.

The Bucks moved out of the National League North relegation zone after a 2-0 victory, with goals coming in the form of a fine curling effort from John Cofie, and a Lucas Dawson penalty kick.

Telford are now 19th in the table, having conceded two less than third-bottom Lowestoft Town, and the defence earned high praise from the gaffer.

"I thought it was an all-round strong performance and the difference was that we have kept a clean sheet, we have defended properly all game," said Smith.

"We have been saying all week if we can get clean sheets with this team, and the formation we have got at the moment, then we always fancy ourselves to score at some point in the game."

"That's the way it works, the second half was a bit ugly I thought, but in a way we wanted that."

"We managed the game properly, and I was pretty proud of some of the performances out there."

Smith also praised his side for taking work from training, and onto the pitch when it mattered most.

"We haven't been managing games, certainly at Stalybridge last week," he added.

"In midweek again (against Alfreton) we got ourselves back into the game and then we let them take the lead again. "

"We have done a lot of work on it in training, done a lot of talking about it and they have put it into action.

"The defence was outstanding, with Monty (James Montgomery) included as well, and deserved a clean sheet."

Telford travel to second-placed Harrogate Town next weekend in the National League North.
