Jamie Vermiglio is backing Telford to avoid drop

Former AFC Telford United ace Jamie Vermiglio believes the club's gamble on attack will see them win their survival battle.

The 33-year-old retired midfielder, who was on the receiving end of the Bucks' 2-0 win on Saturday as Chorley coach, was surprised to see his old club be bold with three forwards at the New Bucks Head.

But it was a move that paid off for Rob Smith's side, who finally climbed out of the National League North drop zone on goal difference.

"It looks like they have put together a decent team and one that works hard for each other," said Vermiglio.

"They're a competitive side and it looks like they're trying to take a few risks leaving three up on most occasions. But it seems to be working for them, especially over the last four or five games, because their fortunes seem to be changing."

Telford have hit 16 goals in their last five games, with strikers responsible for 11 of them as Smith has switched to playing three out and out forwards.

New signing Josh Wilson has bagged five, Connor McCarthy three, John Cofie two and Dave Hibbert one as the front men have benefitted from a more attacking style of play.

"Chorley couldn't cope with the movement of the front three and they're good finishers," said the boss.
