Tom Tonks: Leaving Bucks was tough decision

Tom Tonks  insists he has no hard feelings after leaving AFC Telford United to rejoin Stourbridge.

Midfielder Tonks, who joined Telford from the Glassboys in December, made six starts and two substitute appearances at the New Bucks Head, but has been on the bench in recent weeks.

But he is back on familiar territory at promotion-chasing Stourbridge, where he played a big part in the Glassboys' FA Cup and FA Trophy runs earlier this season.

"There are no hard feelings," said Tonks. "I spoke to Rob (Smith, Telford manager) and I said I'd like to play for him again in the future.

"It was an experience travelling to places like Stockport, where I was once mascot for Wolves.

"You go up the leagues and you come across ex-pros like Dave Hibbert and Jordan Wynter so it's good to test yourself against these players because they bring out the best in you.

"So it was a little bit 'gutting' to be honest. It was a tough decision to leave because Telford is a massive club and to play at the New Bucks Head every other Saturday was special.

"But game time was limited and I just want to play football because I'd become very frustrated.

"Results have picked up so I understand it's hard to change, but in football you have to be selfish and I've kept tabs on Stourbridge, who are flying."

Tonks is convinced Telford will win their National North survival battle.

"I'm 100 per cent certain they're going to stay up," he said.

"Signings lads like Josh Wilson and John Cofie, they're more dangerous and they look more solid in that formation.

"They've got one of my best mates in Curtis Tilt and, when he's at the back, they've always got a chance of keeping a clean sheet and winning games. I wish them all the best."

Tonks is in contention for Stourbridge's home game against Frickley on Saturday.
