Mike Grogan: Telford can really kick on

Match-winner Mike Grogan insists that the AFC Telford United squad is more than good enough to get the wins that will ensure their National League North status.

Utility man Grogan came off the bench midway through the first half at Harrogate to nod the game's only goal.

It was just the first time that the defensive-minded midfielder has featured for more than 45 minutes in any competitive football this season.

The Scouser said: "All season we've known that we have a good enough team that shouldn't be in that position.

"We kept going into games and we were getting beaten, we all felt like we were in a false position but we were still playing poorly and getting beat.

"Now that we're getting results the team spirit changes. All of the lads are having a laugh and it's becoming a good place to come training.

"If that carries on till the end of the season, I'm sure we can go on and win a load more games."

While sitting on the sidelines for a large portion of the campaign, the fans' favourite praised the midfield partnership that dug-in.

It helped Rob Smith's side earn their first consecutive clean sheets of the season.

He added: "The lads in front of us, Jack and Jordan, were unbelievable, we just all dug in.

"It's good, if the lads are under the cosh at the back, and if the midfield lads can take the pressure off then it's a good thing."

Grogan revealed that he is in shape fitness-wise and ready to pitch in with Telford's survival bid – particularly with defender Graham Hutchison limping off injured.

"I've been ready for a while but I've had little niggly things that have got in the way. I've had to bide my time, but now I'll hope to carry on next week."
