Darren Campion: 'Mini games' for AFC Telford

All-action AFC Telford United full-back Darren Campion has put the Bucks' recent success down to 'winning the mini-games.'

And the 28-year-old will have to be at his best to get the best of tomorrow's 'mini-game' against Tamworth top scorer Elliot Durrell – an attacker he knows all too well.

The pair played together for a number of years at Bucks boss Rob Smith's former side, Hednesford Town, where they landed a number of accolades, notably during the 2012-13 campaign.

Durrell, a former Telford youngster, was one of the stand-out attacking talents in Smith's Pitmen side.

While the pair remain good friends off the field – Campion went to watch Durrell and Tamworth edge past Harrogate – the full-back reiterated that all ties are cut for 90 minutes.

Campion laughed: "He's too smart to know to come anywhere near me. He used to play out wide but I think they've been playing him in the middle.

"I've told him if he comes near me and tries his tricks then he'll be in row Z! There's been a bit of banter – I've told him to stay away from my side."

Campion and the rest of the Bucks squad have been winning all of their 'mini-games' of late.

While Tamworth arrive on a seven-game unbeaten run, the hosts haven't lost in five. The turn of form has lifted Telford up to 18th in National League North.

Goals from attacking trio Josh Wilson, Connor McCarthy and John Cofie have stolen the headlines, but Campion was keen to put in a claim for the unsung heroes.

He added: "Over the past four or five games I've been saying that each section of the team has been having their own mini-games.

"The defence has been looking after the opposition forwards and if the midfield can win their battle in the middle then I know the forwards can win us the game.

"We have goals in us and if we look after our areas as defenders and midfielders, then we're going to score goals.

"Tamworth are a side that have players that will give you 7-10 every week. Not being disrespectful, there aren't many superstars – but they work hard for each other."
