James Montgomery: It's all positive for AFC Telford now

AFC Telford United shot-stopper James Montgomery has hailed positive thinking as key to the Bucks' miraculous National League North revival.

Despite yesterday's vital clash at relegation-battlers Brackley Town falling to the weather, Telford have given themselves a real chance of keeping their league status after a fine run of form.

A 1-0 win against Tamworth last Saturday was Telford's fifth consecutive league win, with the side unbeaten in six.

The Sunderland-based keeper said: "I think we all understand each other's game.

"It's been a long season and we've had a lot of negatives, but now it's positives and we're all working for each other.

"We realise that we're getting closer, a lot closer, to being safe so hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can push on and get a couple more points on the board to be safe as early as possible.

"If you look from the beginning of the season to now, the team is completely different."

Goals from the attacking trio of Connor McCarthy – who bagged Saturday's winner – John Cofie and Josh Wilson have been the catalyst to the Bucks' form.

But with Cofie and Wilson unavailable through injury against Tamworth, Montgomery pointed to the stellar job carried out by their replacements.

He added: "You could say around the New Year, when we played Bradford Park Avenue. That was when we thought there was a lot more quality in the squad.

"The front three that we've got, whether it was Izak (Reid), Hibbo and Connor like against Tamworth.

"But also looking at the likes of John Cofie and Josh Wilson when they've come in – they've been absolutely monumental."

Montgomery reckons his team-mates are not fazed by any opposition.

"There's real fight and desire," he added.

"You saw against Tamworth the lads sprinting the length of the pitch in the 90th minute. The desire is unbelievable."
