Rob Smith: AFC Telford are 'a different animal'

Rob Smith insists AFC Telford United will be a 'different animal' against Nuneaton tomorrow as they look to continue their remarkable march to safety.

The Bucks go to Liberty Way seeking their sixth straight win and seventh unbeaten game, after climbing to six points above the safety line in National League North.

Telford were thrashed 5-1 by Nuneaton at the New Bucks Head last November and boss Smith still admits they were the best team they have faced this season.

But he is confident his rebuilt side won't roll over as easily in the return, saying: "That was the best performance I've seen by a Conference North team.

"We were poor and never put a foot on them. They still have a lot of that team, but I'd like to think we're a different animal to last time.

"I don't think they'll take us lightly – Kevin Wilson (Nuneaton boss) is no mug and everyone can see we're on a good run.

"We're not going to take anyone by surprise but if we perform like we have been, I'm confident we can carry on our run."

Two scorers in that November win, midfielder Callum Chettle and former Bucks loan striker Aaron Williams, have since won permanent moves to League One club Peterborough.

But Smith is convinced the Boro will be just as strong, adding: "They have replaced them with very good players so in fairness a lot of the players that did some damage against us will be playing.

"Elliot Whitehouse scored a hat-trick against us last time and he's playing."

Smith revealed six-goal Josh Wilson (infected tooth) is available but will check on Jack Rea (ankle), Jordan Wynter (shin) and John Cofie (hamstring).

The Bucks boss believes Telford must continue to keep piling up the points, adding: "We don't know what we need so we've got to concentrate on getting as many points as we can."

Meanwhile, Telford's postponed game at Brackley has been re-arranged for Tuesday, April 19 (7.45pm).
