Telford boss Rob Smith named manager of the month

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith has been rewarded for the club's remarkable turnaround by being voted National League North manager of the month for March.

Smith steered the Bucks to five straight wins last month of which the last four have been with clean sheets as part of a six-match unbeaten run.

The remarkable turnaround has seen the club climb from the foot of the table up to 16th place and six points clear of the drop zone with six games of the season left.

Telford started the month by coming from behind to win 3-2 at Alfreton before beating Chorley at home 2-0, high-flying Harrogate away 1-0, Corby Town at home 3-0 and play-off chasing Tamworth 1-0 at home.

But the catalyst for the turnaround was arguably the 5-5 draw at Stalybridge Celtic on February 27, when Telford came from 5-2 to rescue a point at the death.

Smith said: "It's been a massive month for us.

"We've picked up some fantastic results against some very good teams both home and away.

"Massive credit must go to the staff and all the players who have really worked hard over the past six or seven games, and also to the supporters for sticking by us when results weren't going our way."

Telford travel to play-off-chasing Nuneaton tomorrow and Smith has told his players they still have a big job to do to ensure the club avoid relegation.
