Rob Smith's case for AFC Telford's defence

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith has hailed his side's defensive resilience after a fifth successive clean sheet extended their unbeaten run to seven games.

A goalless draw at play-off chasing Nuneaton left the Bucks 16th, now just four points of the drop zone, with other sides holding games in hand.

But, on an afternoon when either side could have edged the three points, the Bucks boss was satisfied with just one.

He said: "I think it's a massive point for us. fantastic. I didn't think that we were great today.

"I didn't think it was a great game, but if you'd have offered me a point with a clean sheet - the fifth on the bounce - before the game then I'd have taken it, so fair play to the lads.

"Result wise over the move, performance wise, we looked a bit tired today. It's the biggest pitch I've ever seen especially with the heat today - it showed.

"It was a bit like an end of season game and I'd take that all day. I said at half-time you wouldn't tell that one team was going for the play-offs and one was trying to stay up.

"We needed more of an injection in our play. We did that in the second-half and could've won it at the end.

"To come here and keep a clean sheet, it's another point. I know Lowestoft have won, but I told the boys that it doesn't really matter as long as we keep picking up points."
