Rob Smith: AFC Telford fear nobody now

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith insists that his side fear nobody after they extended their unbeaten National League North run to seven matches.

Saturday's goalless draw at play-off chasing Nuneaton left the Bucks in 16th place, four points clear of the drop zone.

A record-breaking fifth successive clean sheet helped continue a miraculous turnaround in which Smith's men have all-but held onto their step two status.

After taming a Nuneaton side who have spent much of the campaign flirting with the leading contenders in the division, the boss confirmed that away trips no longer daunt his charges.

He said: "We don't fear anybody any more, it was one of the first times – me and Larry said on the way – we weren't worried about coming to Nuneaton and that's a great thing for us.

"Maybe going away a little bit disappointed from a draw at Nuneaton, who're going for the play-offs, is a good thing.

"We're not going to go down with that team. We've got more points in us, I can't see that team losing five games."

The Bucks' solid defensive unit brought another clean sheet – their best run since the club was re-formed – and the boss revealed his side revel in increasing their fine work at the back.

Aside from Mike Grogan stepping in for the injured Graham Hutchison, Telford's backline has been consistent for a number of months.

He added: "They've just come together as a unit and they want to keep clean sheets.

"It's becoming a bit of a challenge for them and next week we'll be saying 'can you get six?"

After a scrappy encounter in Warwickshire, there was yet more praise for in-form former Arsenal midfielder Jordan Wynter.

The 22-year-old has signed a deal for the remainder of the campaign and has impressed in recent weeks.

Smith added: "I thought that he was the best midfielder of the three on Saturday.

"He's had a bit of criticism at times when Jack (Rea) has been doing a lot of the work, but I thought that Jordan was excellent."
