AFC Telford United are set to hand a debut to new signing Reece Simpson in tonight's Shropshire Senior Cup final.

The central midfielder, who has signed on non-contract forms, is in the squad to take on Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow.

Simpson was most recently with Ryman Premier Division strugglers Farnborough, where he appeared twice as a half-time substitute, and is a friend of Bucks midfielder Jordan Wynter.

Boss Rob Smith said: "We'll probably have a look at Reece tonight. He's a midfielder who's a bit like Jordan – he's a big, strong lad who gets around the park."

Midfielder Jack Rea won't be risked after injuring his calf in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Nuneaton, and left-back Darren Campion, who has a bruised foot, may only be on the bench.

Youth-teamers Tom Edge and Ben Osei are likely to be included. Smith said: "It will be a strong team, because we haven't got much choice as we haven't got that many signed on.

"It will give a chance for some players who haven't got many minutes lately to get some match time, such as Graham Hutchison, Kyle Brownhill and Sean Clancy."

Smith has won the cup with Telford before and is looking forward to locking horns with Shrewsbury.

He said: "Our main priority has to be the league and we've got to keep one eye on a really big game on Saturday.

"I'm sure it's the same for Shrewsbury, but it's a cup final and it's a chance for our players to play on a league ground.

"I've won it at Shrewsbury before, playing against people like Grant Holt. I remember winning a final at Telford on penalties and it was rammed, so I'm looking forward to it."

Telford have kept a club record five successive clean sheets and Smith also sees it as a chance to extend their seven-match unbeaten run. He said: "It's a challenge to keep the run going."
