AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith admitted the 3-0 loss to league leaders Solihull Moors today was a shock defeat to his team.

The Bucks ended their seven-game unbeaten run in the league after losing to the National League North league leaders at home on Saturday.

But, despite the form of Solihull, Smith wouldn't accept there was a gulf between the two. He said: "We didn't turn up.

"It was going to be a case of if you are going to match them, you have to be at your best and we were at our worst today, which was disappointing.

"The best team won on the day. We were unbeaten in seven games in the league, and it was a good job before today when you look at it really.

"The loss brought us down to Earth with a big bang, I couldn't see it coming today but that is the way it goes."

Solihull Moors was the last team to beat Telford before the Bucks great run of form, which saw Rob Smith named as Manager of the Month for March.

And Smith added he would have expected a better showing from his team this game.

"We went down to there place and gave them a right good game," he said.

"So we fancied ourselves today, but the goals have killed the game.

"I thought we started quite well and we gave a rubbish goal away.

"And then we get going again and give a horrendous goal away.

"Second half might as well not happened.

"It is just a poor day but we have just got to put it to bed."

Asked about his thoughts looking ahead to the future, Rob said: "There are improvements that could be made all around, but it got as bad as it could get today.

"The lads have been brilliant for me though over the last month and we have just got to go back to that.

"There are no plans for next season. We don't know what league we will be in. We first have to concentrate on getting safe."
