Larry Chambers urging Telford to believe

AFC Telford United have been urged to bring back belief after successive league setbacks.

The Bucks' National League North survival hopes are in the balance after defeats against Solihull Moors and North Ferriby United.

Rob Smith's side looked a shadow of the team that impressed during their outstanding seven-game unbeaten run at Ferriby, particularly in the second-half in Yorkshire.

Telford face a crunch re-arranged game at relegation rivals Brackley tomorrow night seeking a return to winning ways.

Assistant boss Larry Chambers said: "They've got to start believing in themselves. They're probably a little bit hurt.

"I don't want them to start feeling sorry for themselves, they've got to man-up and believe we can get something at Brackley.

"We know we've got goals in us but we're lacking the belief.

"They haven't become bad players overnight, so we've got to get back to basics by start keeping clean sheets, making right decisions and make the opposition make mistakes."

Connor McCarthy's solitary strike against Tamworth is the Bucks' only goal in four league games and Chambers believes the chances have dried up.

"I don't think we're making the chances like we were a month ago," added Chambers.

"But we've got to work harder and stay in games, not give silly goals away and make the opposition make the mistakes.

"Four weeks ago those chances Connor had, you'd back him to put them away, but at the moment he doesn't look like doing it."

Telford are two points above the drop zone and two points above Brackley, who are one place below them in 19th after they drew 1-1 at home to Chorley on Saturday. Both teams have three games left.

Lowestoft, who drew 1-1 at Gainsborough, are below Brackley on goal difference but with a game in hand, while second-bottom Hednesford, who are six points behind the Bucks having played a game more, produced the shock of the day, winning 2-1 at champions Solihull Moors.

Telford were without the improving Jordan Wynter at Ferriby, while left-back Darren Campion was forced off at the break.

Chambers gave an update on the injured duo ahead of the crucial trip to Brackley.

He added: "Campion has tweaked his knee ligaments, I don't know how serious it was but we didn't want to risk him because he didn't feel right and we'll assess it. He may make tomorrow.

"We're hoping Jordan Wynter is back tomorrow. He got a dead leg and hasn't improved as we thought, but we think he'll be available for tomorrow."

Meanwhile, the club want a part-time head youth coach and assistant head coach for next season. Anyone interested should email a covering letter and CV to head of youth Luke Shelley at youth@telfordutd.co.uk or call 01952 640064.
