Sean Clancy: Telford should go for the title

AFC Telford United midfielder Sean Clancy has urged the club to "have a real crack" at next season's National League North title.

And Clancy would like boss Rob Smith to retain most of the survival heroes for the next campaign.

The Bucks sealed their status for next term on Saturday with the 2-0 victory over Worcester City at The New Bucks Head, and Brackley Town's 1-1 draw at Curzon Ashton.

They go to Chorley for the final game of this campaign this Saturday.

Clancy, Telford's longest-serving current player, scored the second goal against Worcester.

"We have finally found a squad that is gelling and it has got results," he said.

"I think if we can manage to keep as many as we can, and then possibly build on that, then we can get back to hitting those targets that we should be – like challenging for these titles, winning the Conference North, and being in a higher division where we belong.

"We have had a bit of a funny period over the last couple of years, but it's time to go right, let's have a real crack at it next year."

Clancy also heaped praise on boss Smith and his assistant Larry Chambers for signing the likes of Curtis Tilt, Darren Campion, Connor McCarthy and Josh Wilson.

"Getting some good lads in, Rob and Larry have done fantastically," he added.

"Curtis, he has been a warrior for us at the back, Camps (Campion) and Monty (James Montgomery).

"The lads have all started coming together at once and I think getting Connor McCarthy back and Josh Wilson in was a turning point, because that is when goals started to come.

"They have done the job and hopefully they (Smith and Chambers) can keep most of the lads here, improve the squad even further and let's see what we can do.

"You look at the last 10 games, where would we be? We would be right up the table, we wouldn't be fighting relegation.

"We should be progressing so, next season, that is the target."
