Team then individual glory for AFC Telford

AFC Telford United's players didn't just celebrate their National League North survival – several were able to bask in individual glory at the club awards night.

Star defender Curtis Tilt was named as Players' Player of the Year, while right-back Dwayne Samuels picked up the Fans' Player of the Year award and the Vice-Presidents' award.

It came in the ceremony at the Learning Centre at the New Bucks Head, after Saturday's 2-0 win against Worcester City which clinched their safety with a game to spare.

Striker Connor McCarthy, who is due to return to Southport from where he was on loan after this weekend, finished as top scorer with eight goals .

Mother-of-three and club volunteer Carolyn Hornby was named as the club's unsung hero. Chairman Ian Dosser thanked the players and the supporters for their efforts in seeing the club over the line.

It came after a testing campaign, which saw the Bucks rooted to the bottom of the table from August to March.

But manager Rob Smith and assistant Larry Chambers masterminded a superb turnaround of results.

It saw them win six and draw two of their final 13 games, including seven clean sheets, five of them in consecutive games.

Smith was named National League North Manager of the month for March. Telford play their final game of the season away to Chorley on Saturday.
