Players interested in coming to AFC Telford

AFC Telford United are already getting 'inundated' with interest from prospective new signings for next season.

The Bucks clinched their National North place with a 2-0 victory over Worcester City last weekend.

That has sparked a rush of interest from players wanting to be part of boss Rob Smith and No 2 Larry Chambers' plans for next season.

Assistant boss Chambers said: "It's going to be a tricky summer but Rob and myself are already getting inundated with phone calls from people wanting to join us.

"We're taking calls from a lot of people who want to join us and it's going to be down to which players fit into the budget and which players can improve us.

"We need to sit down with the chairman and the rest of the board and find out where we stand."

Longest-serving player Sean Clancy wants to see the squad stay together in the belief that they can challenge at the other end of the table.

After they gelled to keep the club up with six wins and two draws in 13 games, but it's likely to be a busy summer.

Every player is out-of-contract apart from striker Dave Hibbert, who signed a two-year deal last summer.

Loanees Graham Hutchison and top scorer Connor McCarthy will return to parent clubs Halifax and Southport respectively to await verdicts on their futures.

Chambers revealed he hasn't enjoyed this campaign, after Telford were rooted to the bottom of the table from when they replaced Steve Kittrick in August to March.

But he is convinced Telford will not have to endure the same struggle next season.

Chambers said: "We haven't enjoyed it and it (relegation battle) is not something we expect to be in next season.

"Whatever budget we're given, we do not expect to be in a relegation battle again here."

But Chambers felt he always thought they would achieve their aim of survival, even when they were six points adrift of safety at one point.

He said: "At Christmas time, while we still believed we would make it, when you look back we looked dead and buried to some people.

"But we did believe and we always felt if we could get one win then we could get two."

Chambers believes the addition of players such as Josh Wilson and John Cofie, plus the return of McCarthy on loan, made the difference.

He said: "The fact we were able to add some quality at the turn of the year meant we started scoring goals."
