It's a waiting game now for the AFC Telford bosses

AFC Telford United insist they are having to play a waiting game to secure their midfield and attacking signings – as hopes of keeping Josh Wilson begin to fade.

Manager Rob Smith and assistant Larry Chambers have switched their attentions to central midfielders, wingers and strikers after signing right-back James Hurst and central defenders Ben Bailey and Dan Preston. They have kept goalkeeper James Montgomery and full-backs Dwayne Samuels and Darren Campion.

But Lucas Dawson and Dave Hibbert are the only midfielder and striker respectively who have agreed to stay for next season.

"We've got a lot of irons in the fire, but with a lot of players it's a waiting game," said Chambers.

"We've met them and made them offers but they're seeing what's out there.

"Midfield and strikers are two areas we need to recruit in but we just need to be a little bit patient."

Telford are looking to impose a deadline of the end of this week for players to commit to the club.

Five players – star defender Curtis Tilt, Mike Grogan, Izak Reid, midfielder Jack Rea and striker Wilson – have still to decide whether to accept contract offers.

"The deadline is getting closer – ideally we'd like to know what everyone is going to do by the end of this week," said Chambers.

"As for Josh, as much as he likes Telford and has enjoyed his time here, he can probably get a better deal elsewhere."
