AFC Telford United have signed teenage striker Danny Reynolds from Wrexham to bolster their depleted attack.

The 19-year-old was released by the Welsh side at the end of the season, but Bucks boss Rob Smith reckons he's got the technical ability to be 'something special' for Telford.

Smith claimed a number of teams were circling around the Wrexham academy product, who scored heaps of goals for the National League outfit's youth sides but failed to break into the first team.

The Bucks manager said: "He's a young striker who a lot of clubs were chasing. He's got huge potential so we got in quick before other clubs nicked in. We're hoping he proves to be a good signing for us."

Smith needed a striker, after the departures of John Cofie and Connor McCarthy at the end of the season left him with just Dave Hibbert and Josh Wilson up front.

And he's been impressed by Reynolds whenever he's seen him play, continuing: "He's got good feet, he's very good technically and he's got a bit of pace about him.

"He's a real prospect who we hope will hit the ground running. He was on the fringe of the Wrexham squad but released at the end of the year.

"I guess he hasn't got the experience they need going for the National League title. But giving him an opportunity is a no-brainer. He could be something special for us."

Telford were also lining up a new winger after but Reynolds was the only signing made over the weekend.

Meanwhile, recent signing Michael 'MJ' Monaghan is determined to add some punch to AFC Telford United.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder scored 22 goals for Burscough last season, helping them to the Evo-Stik Premier League Northern Division play-offs.

But the energetic Scouser also revealed he is a late developer in footballing terms – because his main sport was boxing.

Monaghan was flagged up to Smith by former Buck Liam Blakeman, the assistant boss at Burscough.

He said: "As a player, I'm aggressive and I wear my heart on my sleeve. But I'm a late developer as a footballer, because boxing was my sport as a kid.

"I used to play football, but I used a to box a lot. I only stopped it when I broke a rib and that made me turn to football."
