AFC Telford hope to land a winger next

Efforts to make it a double capture along with the arrival of versatile Wrexham striker Danny Reynolds on Sunday proved in vain.

Smith was unable to get a deal over the line with the un-named target, but the Bucks chief hasn't given up and is hopeful of a positive outcome before this weekend.

He said: "I was hoping so, but it hasn't happened yet. We've still got another striker we will sign at some point and we'll get another centre-half in, but nothing has happened on those yet.

"We're having discussions every day. Hopefully by the end of the week we'll have another new face."

Having lost Curtis Tilt to Wrexham, Smith wants a third centre-back to add to new faces Dan Preston and Ben Bailey, but attacking signings are still the main focus, at the moment.

He said: "I've not really looked at the centre-back position yet because my priority has been attacking players."

Meanwhile, Smith insists 19-year-old Reynolds is a signing for the present and not just the future, adding: "I see him as one for the here and now.

"Wrexham were in two minds as to whether to release him or not.

"But Wrexham are a side that have to get into the play-offs as a minimum and they're probably looking for experienced strikers.

"Dropping down a level we're hoping he can have a good season."
