Rob Smith keen on bringing Elliott Durrell to AFC Telford

AFC Telford United are rivalling National Premier interest for free-scoring Elliott Durrell as they look to clinch the signing of a winger by Monday.

Durrell is much admired by Bucks management Rob Smith and Larry Chambers for his prolific scoring for them at Hednesford, where he played for six years from 2008-14.

The 26-year-old, who is based in Shrewsbury, is a free agent after being released by Tamworth at the end of the season following a year in the full-time ranks with Wrexham.

Durrell is in big demand, and it's understood full-time National Premier club Chester as well as National North rivals Boston have offered him deals amid other interest.

Smith said: "The last I heard from Elliott was he was in talks with a Conference Premier club but I don't know if he's got fixed up. I would always take him if there was a chance because he did so well for me at Hednesford and as a player, I admire him quite a lot.

"But from my discussions with him, he was still looking at National level and I'd be surprised if he didn't have offers to play at that level.

"Whether that suits him or not I don't know because he's become a father again so he has to weigh everything up.

"He knows I'd be interested in signing him if he wanted to come our way.

"It's certainly local for him but as I say I haven't spoken to Elliott and I'd imagine he'd have the chance of National Premier football."

Smith had hoped to get a winger signed last weekend when he brought in Danny Reynolds and is looking to finally reach agreement by the start of next week.

"There's still nothing happened but I'd imagine I'd know by the end of the weekend," he added. "So we're looking to know by Monday but if it hasn't happened by then, then nothing will. It's a player we've been talking to but there are other clubs interested."
