Tom Peers targets 15 goals for AFC Telford

The 20-year-old versatile striker became Rob Smith's ninth summer signing on Thursday after leaving Chester.

Warrington-born Peers finished last campaign with loan spells at Marine, where he scored eight goals in nine games and Hednesford, where he netted three in nine.

And the exciting youngster is confident he can score at a healthy rate for the Bucks.

Peers said: "I want to score at least 15 goals - that's the mark I'm setting for myself and, hopefully, I can reach that and we'll have a good season.

"I usually play as a number nine or 10 but I can also play on either side. I'm more a player who likes to get in behind - I run all game, or try to.

"I try to be strong and quick and I score goals so hopefully I can score plenty for Telford next season."

Peers will join Josh Wilson, Dave Hibbert and Danny Reynolds as options up front - new signings Lee Fowler and Michael Monaghan can play in the No 10 role, too.

He admits he relishes the pressure that comes with being the main striker, continuing: "I played most of those games (for Marine and Hednesford) as a No 9.

"That's where I like to play the most and my main position. I love that pressure on me of being expected to score and I think that pressure helps most strikers.

"I feel you have to walk on that pitch with a swagger where you know you're going to score."

Peers is expecting to get his fair share of game time and promised fans he aims to be a crowd-pleaser.

He said: "As a striker you need to play games and Rob has told me I will get to play so, hopefully, I can get a good start to pre-season and start the season off right.

"It's always good to get the crowd going when you score goals and maybe do a trick to beat defenders so, hopefully, I will do that next season."

And the youngster is no stranger to some of his Bucks team-mates, adding: "I've played with James Hurst and Ben Bailey at Hednesford and I'm made up to be playing with them again.

"We should be solid at the back and with the likes of them and Darren Campion, we'll have a good team.

"Then with the experience of Lee Fowler he should be able to teach me a thing or two."
