Tom Peers: AFC Telford have the 'wow' factor
New signing Tom Peers insists AFC Telford United have the 'wow' factor to attract players for a play-off push.
The 20-year-old striker became Rob Smith's ninth summer signing last week.
He joined Ben Bailey, Dan Preston, James Hurst, Lee Fowler, Callum Gittings, Sean Williams, Michael Monaghan and Danny Reynolds.
And Peers reckons their new-look squad has the star quality to be challenging at the right end of National League North next season after last season's escape from relegation.
He said: "Telford were in the Conference two years ago and as soon as I heard of their interest, I thought 'wow' – it's a massive club and I was made up.
"Hopefully, I can help them back to where they should be but who knows how far we can go?
"With the players they're signing and from what Rob has told me we could go for the play-offs.
"I know a lot of teams will be saying that but I think they will want to go for it after a relegation battle.
"Hopefully the fans will want to be battling for promotion after fighting relegation and that's what I'm aiming for."
Peers, who had three spells with Hednesford last season, is convinced by Telford's credentials as he has played with several of his new team-mates before.
He said: "I've known Ben Bailey for quite a while – probably two or three years – and he's a solid centre-half and a good team captain who's up for the fight for everything.
"I've got confidence in him to keep things tight at the back. Sean Williams is the type of player every team needs but is a horrible player to play against.
"He gets on the ball, demands things of others and dictates the play."
The youngster has been released by Chester and aspirations of returning to a higher level – with Telford.
He said: "I want to have a full season of playing games and scoring goals.
"If I do, hopefully, I can get back into playing at a higher level but, for now, I want to concentrate on Telford and helping them to have a very good season."
Hard-working Peers believes he is ideally suited to Smith's high-pressing game at Telford.
He said: "That's my style of play – I like chasing defenders down and a high pressing game."
