The visitors, fielding three youth-teamers and three graduates from last season's Under-18s as manager Rob Smith rested some of his big guns for Saturday's glamour friendly against Aston Villa, dominated most of the game at Crown Meadow.

But the Bucks only had one goal to show for their efforts in a one-sided first half then conceded an equaliser five minutes from time before restoring their lead almost immediately.

Kicking down the slope, they scored with their first attack after just three minutes.

AFC Telford United (4-2-1-3): Wildigg; Edge, Bailey, Broome, Bendall-Court; Fitzpatrick, Gittings (Dawson 60); Fowler (N Wilson HT); Lilly, Peers, Osei (Monaghan HT).

Sub not used: Preston.

Referee: Ciaran Hanna (Shrewsbury).

And there was a touch of class about the finish from striker Ben Osei, one of a trio of youth-teamers promoted to the first-team squad this summer with right back Tom Edge and right winger Zak Lilly.

The former Wolves academy schoolboy held off a defender as he turned on to Lilly's defence-splitting pass from the right before drawing new keeper Will McGarry and slotting into the corner of the net with the outside of his foot.

Telford had plenty of chances to extend their lead but were let down by their unconvincing finishing.

Tom Peers cut inside only to see his shot deflected over, then Lilly's rising effort was palmed into the air by McGarry.

Bridgnorth's only threat of the opening period was presented to new signing Leon Salmon, but scuffed his volley, which was denied by a point-blank save from keeper Mitchell Wildigg after Jack Wilson crossed from the right.

Lee Fowler, playing as the most advanced of the three-man midfield, went closest to extending Telford's lead with a delightful curling free kick from inside the D in the 31st minute only for the ball to hit the bar and bounce over.

Then on 37, trialist Joe Fitzpatrick was denied by a fine save from McGarry tipping over his rising effort after Osei's pacy run down the left and cross.

Lilly threatened a second Telford goal three minutes after the break after Fitzpatrick put him through but he could only sidefoot against McGarry's legs.

Peers was then put clean through the middle with time on his side but McGarry was out well and got a hand to the ball to divert the striker's shot inches wide.

Bridgnorth went close to an unlikely equaliser in the 61st minute when Tom Grainger's diving header forced Wildigg to scramble across his goal to smother after Anwar Olugbon crossed from the left.

Telford wasted a golden chance to make it 2-0 on 70 when Monaghan pulled the ball back for the in-rushing Peers, but he could only drag a first-time effort wide.

Telford were made to pay for their missed chances when substitute Luke Whitfield cut in from the right before burying a low, curling effort into the far bottom corner.

But the Bucks restored their lead within two minutes when Peers rounded McGarry and netted from a tight angle.
