AFC Telford United sign up Micah Evans

AFC Telford United have confirmed the signing of pacy winger Micah Evans following an impressive spell on trial.

The 23-year-old spent the past week with the Bucks and terms were agreed after the 2-1 friendly defeat to Aston Villa at the New Bucks Head on Saturday.

The wide man, who featured as a second-half substitute in the game, was believed to be attracting the interest of a number of clubs.

But he has signed on for the upcoming season in the National League North and boss Rob Smith thinks he can have an impact for the club.

He said: "It's difficult to judge him on Saturday against Villa because they are such a good side but, against weaker opposition, I really think he can shine."

Evans, who came through the ranks at Blackburn and was on the books of Burnley two years ago, finished last season on loan at Chorley before being released by Stockport County.

He also played 23 games, scoring three times, for League Two Accrington Stanley in the 2011-12 season.

He featured in the Bucks' friendlies against Colwyn Bay and AFC Wulfrunians last week, too, getting an assist for a Josh Wilson header in the latter.

In terms of other signings, Smith is on the lookout for another wide man, as he looks to complete a busy summer which has seen no fewer than 10 new players come through the door.

The manager is delighted with the business done to this point and was encouraged by a gutsy performance against Villa.

Telford led until the final 10 minutes thanks to Dave Hibbert's early goal, before strikes from Jordan Ayew and Aly Cissokho turned things around for the Championship visitors.

Smith said: "At the end of the day, they are all my players now. Every one that is there, I have chosen to either keep or go out and sign.

"It's important the players understand they are representing me now and can't hide behind anything.

"They have been a joy to work with so far. Things are bright but we will see how we go."
