Manager Rob Smith has revealed the 27-year-old centre-back, who has skippered his previous clubs Hyde and Altrincham, is his choice to take the armband for the 2016-17 campaign.

Jack Rea led the team at the end of last season and captained the side in Saturday's 4-0 win in the Shropshire Senior Cup semi-final against Market Drayton Town.

Smith said: "Ben (Bailey), 'Camps' (Darren Campion), Josh (Wilson), 'Prezzo' (Dan Preston) have all captained teams, but I want a centre-half really.

"We'll go with Gianluca as captain. I just think he's a talker and an organiser and he's got the experience.

"He's not a bawler and a shouter but he organises people and you can hear it so it's a good position to have a captain.

"Luca's got to get his shirt as well, but the good thing is if he doesn't play, we've got other people who can be captain.

"I don't make a great deal out of the choice of captain but he's a natural organiser."

Smith is happy to have plenty of candidates to skipper the team, adding: "I talked about this at the fans' forum.

"The one thing we've got this season is a lot of players who have been captain at clubs, so we're spoilt for choice really.

"He (Rea) has been doing my head in, telling me he'd been stripped of the captaincy so I thought I'd give it to him on Saturday!"

Right-back Dwayne Samuels suffered a dead leg and went off shortly after replacing Darren Campion as a half-time substitute.

Smith said: "It was just a dead leg but there was no point risking him any more. I imagine he'll be OK for Tuesday."

Centre-back Dan Preston missed the game because of a family issue in Devon, but both he and Samuels are expected to be available for tomorrow's visit of Wrexham.
