AFC Telford upbeat after Wrexham loss

AFC Telford United assistant manager Larry Chambers admitted that there were many positives from a reversal against Wrexham.

Chambers, standing in for boss Rob Smith who is away on holiday, oversaw just Telford's second defeat of pre-season, alongside the Villa clash.

Despite giving three poor goals away to trail, the Bucks continued to push and were rewarded with two in return, but an equaliser was just too much to ask.

Chambers said: "I think it was a great workout for us. I think that they're going to be one of the better sides in the Conference.

"They pass it well, in the same way that Villa and Solihull did – although I think they're better than Solihull.

"It was a good exercise in keeping our shape whenever we haven't got the ball.

"Working hard and, the one thing we did today that we didn't do against the Villa and probably Solihull, was that we kept the ball better when we had possession."

Ben Bailey and Dan Preston began as Telford's centre-backs at the New Bucks Head, before Gianluca Havern replaced the former in the second period.

Chambers admitted his disappointment at not making the visiting Dragons sweat to create their openings.

He added: "But the disappointing thing is that as good as they were, the goals were generally down to individual errors on our side.

"For all of their good play, they probably didn't score from a well-worked goal from themselves, it was mistakes that we made.

"We were a bit unfortunate, on another day those first-half chances (against Chris Dunn) could've gone in but that'a football.

"There were lots and lots of positives. I think Sean Williams was excellent, Danny Reynolds has had another great – they all were really.

"For us the disappointing thing is that we gave daft goals away."

There was a place on the Wrexham bench for Curtis Tilt, who made his return as a half-time substitute, while Dwayne Samuels, Jack Rea and Micah Evans missed out with knocks.

James Hurst, Telford's one summer recruit to not taste any action, has undergone a successful operation on his injury.
