AFC Telford bemoan penalty call in loss

Danny Rowe scored the only goal three minutes after the break but there were chances for both sides and Jack Rea was denied and Dan Preston (twice) missed excellent chances.

But the Bucks felt they should have had a spot kick, when former Fylde forward Josh Wilson appeared to be flattened by Richie Baker two minutes from time.

Bucks assistant boss Larry Chambers commented: "My view was it was a penalty.

"I spoke to their number two coming off and he said 'we thought it was a penalty' and I said to Josh 'give me your honest opinion and he said 'it was a penalty' so he was convinced.

"My view is over the course of the season, they even themselves out. I tried to talk to the ref but they're not interested really.

"I just said to him 'do you think you got that one wrong?' but it's not going to get me anywhere arguing with him."

Chambers, in charge with manager Rob Smith not back from holiday until tomorrow, felt Telford were worthy of at least a point.

He said: "I think we probably did enough to get something out of the game. We had the clearer-cut chances with Dan (Preston) having a couple and Jack Rea.

"But when you play against teams such as Fylde with Brendon Daniels and Danny Rowe up top, that's the difference.

"They pay the money for them but in fairness we looked after Rowe for most of the game apart from that one time, when we weren't tight enough to him and he got a shot off and it was 1-0.

"It was an uphill task after that, but I thought we responded well and we could have equalised straight afterwards and we finished the game really well.

"The performance was encouraging - some of the players put a real shift in, and they won their battles so we have to look at the positives and move on."

Chambers felt Telford stuck to their game-plan to restrict Fylde, adding: "They played the same way and we worked in the week about keeping our shape and we did.

"There were always going to be times when Brendon Daniels got away from us but we kept our shape well.

"We started the first-half well and started the second half OK but it was the fact they had match-winners, people who cost a lot of money.

"One of them won them the game which was the difference. In any league in the world, your match-winners cost you money but they're worth it if they get you the three points."
