Rob Smith searching for Telford solution in front of goal

The Bucks again created chances but had to settle for a 0-0 draw at FC United of Manchester following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to AFC Fylde.

Danny Reynolds had an early effort disallowed for offside before Josh Wilson, the excellent Dave Hibbert, and substitutes Callum Gittings and Tom Peers missed second-half chances.

"We're off and running but we've got to do a lot of work on the forward line," said Smith.

"Give me a Danny Rowe or Tom Denton because that's what we're up against in this league. But it doesn't mean we can't score goals.

"Offensively, we're not creative enough and when we do, we're not clinical enough. That's something for us to work on but we're a new squad. We might have to look around and tinker a little bit.

"It's not quite clicking for us up there but it's certainly not a time to panic after two games.

"Defensively and application, we were awesome, but it was the last third (where they were lacking).

"If we can keep the defence playing like that, then we'll do a lot of work with the forwards because we've got some young lads up there and Josh isn't at full fitness yet, but it will come."

Dan Preston was again hugely impressive for the Bucks in a hugely encouraging defensive display.

"You can't be too critical coming away and getting a point anywhere, but the defence was absolutely outstanding from start to finish, including the goalkeeper," said Smith.

"The problem is when go to FC United and play two strikers, they get out to the full-backs and they hurt you so we wanted to stop the full-backs.

"We got a bit obsessed with it at times and we isolated Dave (Hibbert) a bit too much but he was outstanding for us again and won so much for us. A draw was probably a fair result."

Midfielder Sean Williams missed the game as he is on a coaching course abroad but will be back for Saturday's National North trip to Tamworth.
