Danny Newton opened the scoring early on for the hosts following some lacklustre defending but Tom Peers equalised shortly after.

In the second period, Peers could have doubled his tally but he fluffed his lanes from close range.

The game looked destined to end in a draw but 40-year-old Morrell, formerly of Shrewsbury Town and Lambs player-manager, capitalised on a Bucks error in the 91st minute and fired home to snatch the victory.

Telford were behind with barely four minutes on the clock. Newton was given too much space in the box and he made no mistake with his shot, slotting past James Montgomery into the far corner.

It was a sloppy first 10 minutes for the Bucks - giving the ball away cheaply on too many occasions - but they would soon bounce back.

After enjoying a good spell of possession, Micah Evans was found on the right-hand side.

The quick winger managed to beat Anthony Breslin and got in a low cross, which Peers controlled before lashing home, on the swivel, from close range past Lambs captain James Belshaw.

Telford's first goal of the National League North season was thoroughly deserved and the front three of Peers, Evans and Josh Wilson were linking up with good effect.

It was the hosts who had the next big chance though. Just after the half-hour mark, winger Ross Dyer blasted the ball into the side netting when he should have, at least, hit the target.

Just before the interval, Wilson was shown a yellow card by referee Simon Mather for a late challenge on Tamworth full-back Andy Burns.

The score at the break correctly reflected the balance of play and Telford made one change for the second period - boss Rob Smith replacing Lee Fowler with Callum Gittings in the middle of the park.

Smith's charges should have took the lead in the 52nd minute.

Evans once again beat his opposite number down the right, put in a low cross which met Peers but, unlike in the first half, he fluffed his lines and his heavy touched was pounced upon by Belshaw.

James Montgomery was then kept on his toes with a couple of decent deliveries into the box, with the second being a free-kick whipped in by Lambs midfielder Ellis Deeney which somehow evaded three team-mates before the Bucks goalkeeper gratefully picked the ball up.

Tamworth defender Steve Tomassen was booked just prior to changes from both teams.

Louis Briscoe, Jed Davies and player-manager Andy Morrell all entered the fray for the home side, with Michael Monaghan coming on for the Bucks in place of Evans.

Danny Reynolds then replaced goalscorer Peers with five minutes to play but the visitors went 2-1 down right at the death.

A mix-up between Preston and Montgomery saw the ball land at Morrell's feet in the box and he whacked it into the top corner on the half-volley.

A cruel blow for Telford which they need to bounce back from, and quickly, with Stalybridge Celtic visiting the New Bucks Head on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
