Tom Peers: We'll get goals at Telford

The Bucks go into the home clash desperate for a win, writes Joe Edwards.

They have just one point from three games in the National League North so far, but Peers feels they should have had another from their last match after conceding late on in the 2-1 loss at Tamworth on Saturday.

"I thought the lads worked hard all game," he said. "I thought we deserved the draw at the end and then they just go down the other end and put the ball in the net, which we should have done.

"I should have taken the second chance I had in the second half.

"I tried to take a touch and should have just hit it – but that will come in the season.

"I reckon we will get more chances like that (against Stalybridge) and hopefully it will happen for us and we will get three points."

Peers notched his and Telford's first goal of the league campaign at The Lamb and knows he and the rest of his team-mates need to be more clinical in front of goal.

"I am made up to get the goal, it's given me a confidence boost. But not getting the three points is a killer and it kills the mood," he said.

"We got the ball on the floor, we passed it, I thought Sean Williams was outstanding. I thought we were quite solid at the back, there were a few lapses in concentration but the defence was class in the first two games.

"You are going to have a bad game, that is what football is all about. But we've got to take our chances and then get some points.

"We should have done better, we should have got at least a point, but hopefully we will get three points (against Stalybridge).

"We should have picked up more points but we have got a good squad."

Stalybridge are 16th – three places above Telford in the table – having won one and lost two of their first three games.

Peers is not taking too much notice of the standings yet.

But he knows the importance of tonight's clash and the trip to Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

"It's early days in the season, it's not panic stations yet, we will get some points," he added.

"Out of these two games coming up, we need at least four points if not six – but I'm confident the lads can do that.

"We'll put our chances away and get some more points on the board."
