Dave Hibbert demands a ruthless Telford streak

The Bucks are in action at the Tameside Stadium tomorrow and head there with confidence, having beat Stalybridge Celtic 2-0 on Tuesday night – their first win of the National League North campaign, writes Joe Edwards.

Hibbert, formerly of Shrewsbury Town, got his first goal of the season in the game, while winger Tom Peers got his second in as many games.

"It was a hugely important win, we had a good couple of performances before that, particularly against Fylde and FC United of Manchester, but we were not ruthless," said Hibbert.

"We were not ruthless enough at either end, we conceded a few sloppy goals at Tamworth and were not sharp enough in front of goal.

"It was massive for us to kick-start the season though with a win

"I am really pleased for Peersy as well, he has got a couple of goals now and we are linking up well."

Hibbert has earned high praise in recent weeks, with boss Rob Smith saying he has been their 'best player so far this season' after the Stalybridge win at the New Bucks Head.

He sustained a severe knee injury in 2010 while with Peterborough United, which eventually forced him to retire from the professional game three years later.

The targetman puts his current form down to a good pre-season, but insists there is more to come.

"I am feeling good, I have had a good-pre-season and not missed a training session," said Hibbert.

"I have been doing some extra work away from the club as well to make sure I am in the right shape too.

"There is still a lot more to come, both from me and the rest of the squad as well."

In terms of Curzon Ashton, Telford lost 1-0 there last season.

Hibbert started that game and is aware of the threat that The Nash pose.

"It will be a tough game and a totally different test for us," he added.

"With Stalybridge, they are a physical side who play quite direct while Curzon Ashton like to get the ball down and pass it around.

"It's a good surface up there, they like to play good football, but hopefully we are going there at a good time.

"We have got be more ruthless, we know that, but the win has given everyone a massive confidence boost. I

There is real quality in the squad so hopefully we can go on a run now and pick up some good results."
