The midfielder has left the club just five games into the season, citing a lack of game time.

Monaghan only joined the Bucks in the summer, having impressed for Burscough in the Evo-Stik League.

Smith, who has now seen two players depart in the space of five days following Lee Fowler's exit last Friday, is disappointed the 20-year-old did not show a little more patience.

"It is frustrating but so often the way in this day and age," he said. "I like the kid and I do rate him but he has not had much time - his frustration is he wants to play and I do understand that.

"But I would have liked him to be a little more patient.

"Ultimately, he has decided he wants to move on and I can't guarantee him first-team football."

Monaghan, who had made two substitute appearances for the Bucks, announced his departure from the club on Twitter.

He posted a message which read: "I've decided to leave Telford immediately, I need to play football and don't feel I was getting enough game time there."
