AFC Telford's Danny Reynolds tipped for bright future

AFC Telford boss Rob Smith has tipped Danny Reynolds for a bright future – but admitted the striker must improve his consistency.

The 19-year-old scored his first goal for the Bucks in last weekend's 1-1 draw at Curzon Ashton after coming on as a half-time substitute.

Reynolds, who joined Telford in the summer following his release by Wrexham, is rated highly by Smith, who wants to see the youngster produce his best form on a regular basis.

"I think Danny has a really bright future ahead of him," said Smith. "He certainly has ability, is a good lad and I think we are going to see some very big things from him.

"I think we did really well to get him here following his release by Wrexham. He is another of those who just needs to find that consistency.

"It is all there. It is just a case of getting it out of him."

Telford are preparing for a Bank Holiday double bill which sees them host Stockport County on Saturday before going to Nuneaton Town on Monday.

The desire for greater consistency is a message Smith has been keen to drum into his players, particularly after the disappointment of the draw at Curzon when a below-par first-half performance cost his team dear.

"I will always take a point away from home but the feeling last Saturday was that we had missed out on a chance to take three points," he added.

"We've got to start putting in a performance for 90 minutes."

Telford's up and down performances to this point in the season have been epitomised by winger Micah Evans, who along with Reynolds helped engineer the second-half comeback at Curzon, just days after being taken off after an hour following a disappointing showing against Stalybridge.

"He has got to try and find it in his game otherwise that is the way it is always going to be, with a substitute appearance here and there," said Smith.

"I am sure that is not what he wants. He'll be wanting to start games regularly but that won't happen until he becomes more consistent."

The Bucks claimed an important win at Stockport back in January, prompting the departure of boss Neil Young from Edgeley Park a few days later.

"That seemed to be a pattern last season, get beat by Telford and get the sack," said Smith.

"They are a huge club at this level but there are a lot of strong clubs in the division now.

"We are going to need to put in a performance if we want a result."
